Occupy Scio – A Capitalist Venture Success 2011

November 13, 2015

With all that’s been going on in the news lately from college campuses and with the 4 year “anniversary” of the “Occupy Wall Street” movement, I thought we’d revisit a “simpler” time…..Occupy Scio!

Yes it was 4 years ago that I got the crazy idea to “Occupy” the town of Scio.  The “Occupy Wall Street, Portland, Salem” thing was going on and everywhere they went they wrought destruction.  I was told that the tiny Oregon town of Scio needed some help.  The Big Red Pavilion was partly finished but they needed more help.  So, we gathered the troops and descended on Scio on Oct. 20, 2011.  It was a GREAT success.  Here are some of the stories in the aftermath, a photo “slide show” of the day as well as the “official” Facebook page (which is still being used a a “water cooler” for Scio) and The Blaze TV episode featuring me talking about the event the day before.  Enjoy: It’s Capitalism at it’s best.  Capitalism is the most generous system in the world!  It is the only system that rewards hard work and dedication to one’s craft as was displayed that day and since.  Asking for the government to help in every situation is asking for a disaster.  Asking for PEOPLE to help, is asking basic human nature.  Because we all care for one another and if we do, we will do what’s best for one another.  The Big Red Pavilion?  It’s all finished now, thanks to the great folks who supported “Occupy Scio” in 2011!
